TGDA joins Project ChildSafe Project ChildSafe, the nation’s largest firearm safety education program, has encouraged millions of gun owners to practice safe and responsible firearms ownership and storage since it began distributing gun lock safety kits eight months ago.
The program is funded by a $50 million grant from the U.S. Department of Justice and is managed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). The program, designed to make homes with firearms safer, will distribute an additional eight million safety kits throughout the nation during the spring and summer of 2004. The safety kits are made available to gun owners free of charge through participating local law enforcement agencies and firearms retailers.
“We are proud and honored to participate in this valuable safety program in the great state of Texas,” said Bill Carter, TGDA President. “We just received out first shipment of locks and a six week media campaign is underway announcing that parents can pick up free child safety kits at participating TGDA member stores.”
“President Bush learned about Project ChildSafe while governor of Texas, launched it there, and pledged to expand the program’s scope and support if he was elected president.” said Bill Brassard, Jr., NSSF managing director, communications, safety and education. “He’s delivering on that pledge now.”
“This is truly a monumental milestone for firearm safety and education,” said NSSF President, Doug Painter. Project ChildSafe has reached over 13,000 communities with its important firearm safety message.” |
